The A55 stretches for 87 miles and is an extremely important route connecting Chester to the port of Holyhead. This means there is always a high volume of traffic using the road daily. Therefore this road experiences a high number of traffic incidents.

The Chester southerly bypass

The A55 begins at junction 12 of the M53, the southern end of the motorway, near Chester.

In North Wales the A55 which runs from Chester to Holyhead is a dual-carriageway which is predominantly motorway standard, but was not designated a motorway because it was thought that making it motorway would be counter-productive as no alternative route for non-motorway traffic was available.

One sight of the A55 Conwy Tunnel from above, and you might think twice next time you drive through it. The tunnel is, of course, completely safe - but the millions of drivers who pass through it might not realise they're driving underwater.

The tunnel consists of three parts, east and west cut and cover sections that were constructed in situ and then buried and a central immersed section under the estuary.

The A34 is an extremely long stretch of road which encounters busy destinations all along the route. Therefore, this road is unfortunately notorious for a high number of traffic incidents.

We're improving the road surface on both the east and westbound carriageways of the A55. The work starts at River Dee bridge close to junction 38 and ends on the northern side of junction 40, near Littleton. Our work involves resurfacing and replacing road markings, road studs, traffic count loops and bridge joints.

Wrexham Road Interchange is junction 38 of the A55, known locally as Post House Roundabout . It was previously junction 36. The roundabout was built as part of the A55 Chester southern bypass, opened in 1976.
