Angela Good directing with a poorly told story, could’ve been executed better maybe with more time Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Donna C This movie was just ok. Nothing special. I could take it or leave it. It kept my attention a tad bit, but it was not what I expected. When it was over, I was like,Is this it? Was overall just a weird movie in my opinion. The little boy was sweet and I didnt mind the parents acting. They just did some stupid stuff when it came to parenting. Far from scary. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Zachary K I'm not sure why there is so much dislike for this film, maybe people were expecting yet another run-of-the-mill slasher, or torture porn or whatever. I guess I am one of the few who actually really enjoyed this film. The premise and story are reminiscent of those local legend/creepypasta type tales that we are all familiar with and I think the director did a great job of holding onto that element throughout the film to remind us this is a story that about everyday people with everyday struggles, who come up against something supernatural. The pacing of the film is mostly perfect, although there is a bit of drag around the second act, but its a minor drag and overall the film barrels along pretty well, giving us character development (something a lot of modern horror fans seems to wish they didn't have to bother with, lol). This is important because it raises the stakes for the rest of the plotline and makes you care about what happens. The acting was very good, with a standout performance from Sam Clafin, and the director made a few excellent choices in how the story builds, allowing us to get some solid tension. As a parent in particular, I was feeling that tension, lol. But ultimately, what made this a great watch for me is that is was fun. Solid atmosphere and tension, and while some may see the Bagman as a little silly (and I can't entirely fault you if you did), the story they told around him was well executed. I had fun watching it and would definitely watch it again, which is more than I can say for a lot of the recent crop of derivative and predictable stuff coming out lately.
